By bus and train

The "Dortmund Universität" S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S-Bahn line S1 runs every 20 or 30 minutes to Dortmund central station and in the opposite direction to Solingen via Bochum, Essen, Duisburg and Düsseldorf. In addition, the university can be reached by bus lines 445, 447 and 462. Timetable information can be found on the homepage of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr, and the transport company DSW21 also offers an interactive route network map.

By car

The campus of the Technical University of Dortmund is located near the Dortmund West interchange, where the A45 Sauerland line crosses the B1/A40 Ruhr expressway. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, the Dortmund-Dorstfeld and Dortmund-Barop exits on the A40 to the North Campus. The university is signposted at all exits. Navigation systems should find the address Friedrich-Wöhler-Weg 4. Sufficient parking is available at Otto-Hahn-Str. 4.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, the AirportExpress takes just over 20 minutes to Dortmund Central Station, and from there, the S-Bahn takes you to the university. A wider range of international flight connections is offered by Düsseldorf Airport, about 60 kilometers away, which can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university's train station.

The H-Bahn

One of the landmarks of the TU Dortmund is the H-Bahn. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Center via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 commutes every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this distance in two minutes.

Cavity-Enhanced Absorption Spectroscopy

We have an open PhD position on cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy available. The aim of the thesis is to build an appartus to detect trace gases in minuscule concentrations by constructing optical cavities with effective optical path lengths of more than 100 km.

Candidates should have a strong interest in building new scientific instruments by combining several technological areas including optics, photonics, electronics, data acquisition, and signal analysis. It is therefore advantageous if you already possess background knowledge in one or more of those areas.

The work will be performed within a motivated team of engineers, physicists, and chemists.
